Connecticut voters go to the polls on Election Day – NBC Connecticut

What you should know

  • Election day has arrived and voters have been casting their votes since 6 a.m. Polls close this evening at 8 p.m
  • Connecticut allows same-day registration (voter must provide ID and proof of residency).
  • More than 740,000 people voted early in Connecticut, a first for a general election in the state.
  • In addition to electing the president this year, the people of Connecticut will elect a U.S. Senator, and all five U.S. Representatives are up for re-election.
  • At the state level, voters decide who fills all 36 state senate seats and all 151 state representative seats in the General Assembly.
  • People will also vote on a statewide change to allow no-excuse absentee voting. To vote by mail, a voter must be currently on active military duty, sick or out of town on Election Day, both for poll workers and for those who have religious conflicts with voting.
