Election 2024: What are the election results so far? When will we find out who won?

Ballots will be cast across the country on Tuesday and Americans will eagerly await who will take control of the White House, Senate and House of Representatives. Additionally, there are several gubernatorial, state and local elections this cycle that will be closely watched.

More than 82.6 million absentee and early in-person votes have been cast nationwide, according to the NBC News early voting dashboard, but the numbers won't be released until late Tuesday.

FOX 5 uses reporting data from the Associated Press to determine when to call a race. AP calls a race when the final candidates no longer have a path to victory. Read more about how AP names a winner.

How long will it take until we know the results?

While most local elections are expected to take place within a day of the election, experts' opinions vary when voters will find out who will be the next president.

Currently, when you ask political experts when they think we will know the results of the presidential election, there are many different answers.

“My only prediction for election night was that we're not going to know on election night who won this race,” Democratic strategist Chuck Rocha told FOX 5.

Veteran election expert Arnon Mishkin, who runs the Decision Desk for Fox News. He says voters shouldn't be surprised if there is no clear winner on election night. In fact, he says it could take days.

“I think it's most likely we'll know before Saturday, and that just depends on how close this election is and the reason for Saturday, because the over/under ratio is that Pennsylvania “Then we'll probably get something out of it that we can call,” Mishkin said.

Mishkin says different states have different counting rules, and with early voting and absentee voting now part of the mix, returns could take longer in battleground states.

David Ramadan of George Mason University's Schar Center for Politics agrees, saying it will likely take two to three days to find out who won.

“We probably won’t know for the next 48 or 72 hours, if we’re lucky,” Ramadan said.
