When Miami-Dade and Broward release initial election results – NBC 6 South Florida

For those wanting an early look at the South Florida election, here's when Miami-Dade and Broward will begin releasing election results.

Miami-Dade

Miami-Dade's elections department will release its first results at 7:15 p.m. EST – 45 minutes before the Florida secretary of state begins posting statewide data on its website. (The state will wait until polls close at 7 p.m. Central Time in the Panhandle.)

Miami-Dade County will first release totals of in-person and mail-in ballots received prior to today, which total 880,630 votes. That will be a very telling number – 57 percent of all active voters in a county where voter turnout peaked at 75 percent in a 2020 presidential race.

Thirty minutes after this initial release of results, the first precinct reports will be added to the totals, and thereafter the plan is to update the day of voting every 30 minutes thereafter, with the final batch consisting of mail-in ballots delivered today before 7 p.m

Broward

In Broward County, the first results will be released shortly after 7 p.m. and updated throughout the night.

According to the Broward County Supervisor of Elections website, approximately 431,534 ballots were cast during early voting, as well as 263,401 mail-in ballots. These results will first be available on browardvotes.gov shortly after 7 p.m. EST.

This accounts for about 60 percent of the voting results, according to Joe Scott, Broward County elections director.

Over the course of the night, the districts begin voting and the results are published online. By 12:30 p.m. on election day, around 28,825 voters had cast their votes there, which represents only 3.9% of the votes cast in the district so far.

“But I just want to warn people that what you see for Broward County does not necessarily represent the state of Florida and does not necessarily represent the country. That’s exactly what we have here in Broward County,” Scott said.

Scott says turnout started off slow on Election Day, but he hopes it picks up again.

“I definitely encourage you to get started quickly because I have a feeling the lines are going to be very long later in the day because we expect a lot more people to show up today,” Scott said.

Polls in Florida close at 7:00 p.m. local time, but because Florida has two time zones, preliminary statewide election night results will not be released until 8:00 p.m. EST. Results can also be found on the state's election website at
