Democrat Casey has a narrow lead in the Senate race in Pennsylvania, according to a CBS News poll

In an important race in the US Senate PennsylvaniaDemocratic incumbent Bob Casey remains ahead. His lead over Republican Dave McCormick is currently six points, well within the margin of error.

More of the state's voters generally describe Casey's positions as “reasonable” than “extreme” — and in that respect he has an advantage over McCormick, who has more mixed views.

Casey was in the lead both times, according to a previous poll conducted by CBS News April And September.

The competitiveness of the race is no surprise, as many previously undecided voters appeared to be closer to the Republican Party. Although Republicans support McCormick in large numbers, there is still room for improvement. But at 84%, his support among Republicans still falls short of Casey's 92% among Democrats.

Although Casey's lead is not certain, he has clearly overtaken Kamala Harris. who is deadlocked with Donald Trump in the state's presidential race. Compared to Harris's margins, Casey does particularly well among white, non-college men – he loses them, but only by half of Harris's.

And Trump's support for McCormick may not help much. Most likely, voters say it makes no difference whether they support McCormick. And a third of independents — with whom McCormick has to catch up — say it matters to them fewer will probably support him. Overall, 7% of likely voters in Pennsylvania say they are unsure about their vote in the Senate.
