Fluid leaking from the Safety Building Barn has been identified as a non-toxic irritant

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – An unknown liquid that leaked from the Safety Building Barn was found to be a non-toxic irritant, according to Toledo Police.

Around 8 a.m. on Nov. 6, there was a strange smell and liquid dripping from a table in the Safety Building Barn at 525 N. Erie St, according to TPD.

Investigators noticed the brown liquid seeping out of a metal can and spilling onto the floor. Both the liquid and the can were unknown, so the Toledo Fire Department was called to assist.

According to TPD, TFRD identified the liquid as methylbutanol, an alcohol-based solvent. It was also considered a non-toxic irritant.

A hazardous materials contractor was called to the scene to remove and dispose of the liquid.
