Gas leak on the Dordt campus leads to the evacuation of new dormitory buildings

Sioux Center, Iowa – There were some tense moments on the Dordt University campus Tuesday night.

According to Sioux Center Fire Chief David Van Holland, firefighters were called to the new residence halls on 4th Avenue minutes before 6:30 p.m. for a report of a gas leak

The chief tells us they evacuated the four dorm buildings while they waited for city crews to make repairs. He says the gas department discovered that some broken gaskets caused the leak, which they were able to fix. He says 4th Avenue Northeast was also closed for a short time.

According to Van Holland, firefighters were on scene for between half an hour and 45 minutes.
