No. 2 Huskies open season against BU

STORRS, Conn. – The second-ranked UConn women's basketball team (0-0) begins the 2024-25 season against Boston University (1-0) on Thursday at 7 p.m. at the XL Center. The game will air on SNY and the UConn Sports Network (97-9 ESPN).

UConn's Huskies & Heroes game is Thursday. Fans may show a military or veteran ID at the XL Center box office on game day for $5 tickets.

UConn has a 42-8 all-time record in season openers. The Huskies have won 28 straight season opening games.

Boston University opened the season on Monday with a 60-48 win over Northeastern. Alex Giannaros led the Terriers with 23 points.

UConn is 8-4 all-time against BU. This is the first meeting between Huskies and Terriers since November 2013.

The Huskies defeated Division II Fort Hays State 89-49 in a matchup last Sunday. Redshirt senior Paige Bueckers led UConn with 27 points on 12-for-14 shooting and nine rebounds. Second semester Ashlynn Shade added 15 points and four steals as a freshman Kaitlyn Chen scored 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Bueckers was named the preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year, a preseason AP All-American and named to the Lieberman Award and Naismith Award watch lists. She is joined by redshirt junior on the Naismith roster Azzi Fuddwho is also preseason All-BIG EAST and is on the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watch list.

Second semester KK Arnold And Ashlynn Shade were also named preseason All-BIG EAST while in college Kaitlyn Chen is an honorable mention selection. Sarah Strong was named the conference's preseason Freshman of the Year and named to the Cheryl Miller Award watch list.

UConn Athletics will celebrate head coach Geno Auriemma and assistant head coach Chris DaileyIt's 40Th Celebrate the 2024-25 Storrs season and honor their legacies and key milestones with multiple initiatives throughout the year.

The Huskies' main celebration will take place during UConn's sold-out game against Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday, November 20 at Gampel Pavilion. All student-athletes who played for Auriemma and Dailey are invited back to campus as the program celebrates four decades of success.

Fans can tune in Setting the standard A five-part documentary that tells the story of Auriemma and Dailey's 40 years at UConn. The first three episodes are available to stream now on UConnPlus.tv, with the final two episodes appearing on November 12th and 19th.

The Huskies were voted favorites in the BIG EAST Conference in the preseason coaches poll.

UConn is ranked second in both the AP and WBCA preseason polls.
