IND vs NZ Live Score, 2nd Test Day 1: Washington Sundar takes seven wickets as India bowl out New Zealand for 259 in Pune

India vs New Zealand Live Score: LUNCH REPORT – Day 1

Ravichandran Ashwin grabbed two wickets in the first session but New Zealand deftly fended off the Indian spinners on a slow and spin-friendly surface to reach 92/2 at lunchtime on the first day of the second Test on Thursday. Devon Conway looked confident against a three-pronged Indian spin attack, reaching 47 not out (108 balls, 5×4), while the dangerous Rachin Ravindra hit five at the other end.

It took just seven overs to establish that the spinners would play a key role in the game, which Ashwin confirmed by getting the first breakthrough with his fifth ball.

Ashwin got drift and turn to dismiss New Zealand captain Tom Latham (15) for the ninth time in Tests when the ball hit his outside edge and hit the pads in front of the wickets, prompting an instant decision from the on-field umpire had.

The pair of Will Young (18) and Conway did well to keep things largely in New Zealand's favor as they took a somewhat cautious approach during their 44-run partnership for the second wicket.

While Conway used the reverse sweep to good effect, the right-hander Young batted fluently until he delivered a shot down the leg side to give Ashwin his second wicket of the session.

Young attempted to hit a ball down the leg side, which perhaps could have been left alone, but the spin and low bounce resulted in the ball touching the gloves before landing in the gloves of Rishabh Pant.

While the bowler immediately appealed, it was Sarfaraz Khan who was short and convinced his skipper Rohit Sharma to take a review, although Pant showed no visible interest in going behind. As it turned out, the ball had actually touched Young's gloves.

Soon after, the on-field umpire rejected a loud appeal for a leg-before against Conway off Ravindra Jadeja, but India still decided to consider the request, losing an appeal in the process.

Ashwin, who sent down most of the 31 overs bowled in the morning, found the outside edge of Conway's bat just before lunch but the ball flew beyond the Indian captain's reach at first slip.

Earlier, Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep had started the game with the new ball but they didn't particularly like the track, although they did ask some questions of the Kiwi openers with a sideways move.
