Travis Kelce says brother Jason defended his family in a phone smashing incident

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce defended the incident with his brother Jason Kelce last week, saying he was defending his family.

Former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce was caught on video slamming a person's phone on the ground and appearing to utter a homophobic slur after the person used the slur to insult Travis Kelce in reference to his Describe relationship with Taylor Swift.

The incident occurred on Saturday outside Penn State University's Beaver Stadium in Pennsylvania.

The brothers spoke about the ordeal and the backlash that followed on Wednesday's episode of their podcast “New Heights.” Jason Kelce said he regrets even getting involved with the person who mocked him.

“I am not happy with the situation,” he said. “My reaction bought him time and also made the situation better known. I regret that. It doesn't deserve any attention. It's really stupid. And if I just move on, it's a nothing burger. Nobody sees it. Now. “It’s out there and it’s just perpetuating more hate.”

“The thing I regret most is saying that word, to be honest. The word he used, it's just ridiculous, takes it to another level. It’s close to the wall and goes over the border,” he continued.

Jason Kelce previously addressed the incident on the pregame show “Monday Night Football,” saying he was not proud of his behavior. “And in a heated moment I decided to meet hate with hate,” he said. “And I just don’t think that’s a productive thing to do. I really don’t.”

Travis Kelce comforted his brother on their podcast, saying, “I know this is weighing on you, bro. That sucks.”

“The real situation is that some fucking clown came up to you and talked about your family, and you responded in a way that defended your family, and you may have used some words that you regret,” he said. “And that’s a situation that you just have to learn from and embrace.”

“And I think that you owning it and talking about it shows how sincere you are to a lot of people in this world,” he continued. “Especially what you said Monday night, that you don’t vote for… hate. That’s just not who you are.”

Jason Kelce, who retired in March after 13 seasons with the Eagles, said the person got under his skin and in the heat of the moment he hurled the insult back at the person.

“I know now that I shouldn’t have done that,” he said. “I think what I really regret is that there is now a very hateful video that is now online and has been seen by millions of people, and I share the blame for allowing it to continue and for bringing it to the public becomes.”
