Two injured in Omaha after domestic violence incident leads to shootout with police

OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A woman is in the hospital after police say she may have been held hostage by a man in Omaha.

Omaha Police told 6 News the incident began as a domestic violence call near South 43rd and Frances Street around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Officers believe the woman was held in a small room against her will.

The man allegedly fired shots and police returned fire. According to OPD, officers were able to safely remove the woman from the home and take her to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect is also in the hospital with injuries that authorities say could be life-threatening.

At this point, investigators are unsure if the suspect's injuries were self-inflicted or if he was struck by gunfire from an officer. OPD gave no indication that officers were injured.
