Three arrests in narcotics investigation

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – Three people are facing drug charges and more than 100 grams of fentanyl has disappeared from the streets following an investigation by the Walton County Sheriff's Office.

Law enforcement said the two-month investigation led to a search warrant at 44 Angel Lane in Santa Rosa Beach. Investigators reportedly found fentanyl along with methamphetamine, nearly $3,000 and nine firearms.

Investigators said a serial number on one of the guns suggested it was a theft from Okaloosa County.

The following people were arrested as a result of the search warrant:

  • Christian Michael Weafer was charged with trafficking over 28 grams of fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine, grand larceny of a firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Daisy May Sherman was charged with trafficking in over 28 grams of fentanyl, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Joshua Michael Melcher was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officials said Sherman is a convicted felon in Operation Mr. Clean, an 18-month investigation focused on taking down a massive drug trafficking operation in Walton County that ended in November 2020. Sherman was convicted of possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell and use of a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony.

“Every drug case is a reminder that patience and persistence are often just as important as the tools we use,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson. “The seizure of fentanyl in this investigation was the result of months of painstaking work – watching, listening and waiting for the right moment. The dangerous threat posed by these drugs is real and while this is a victory, we are committed to continuing our fight against drugs in our community.”

Law enforcement said that if found guilty, Weafer and Sherman would face a minimum sentence of 25 years for trafficking more than 28 grams of fentanyl.
