Sprague

This week, a man was arrested for allegedly attacking a woman at Mound Cemetery.

Dylan Mitchell Sprague, 22, last known address of Marietta, was arrested Monday for his involvement in an alleged attack at Mound Cemetery, according to Marietta Police Capt. Aaron Nedeff.

According to a Marietta Police media release, Sprague was charged with strangulation, aggravated assault, aggravated menacing, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia and taken to the Washington County Jail.

There was no information available as to whether the charges were felonies or misdemeanors.

According to the news release, Sprague's arrest stemmed from a disturbance that Marietta police responded to at Mound Cemetery around 12:47 p.m. Monday. Police found a woman sitting next to a tree with blood coming from her mouth and other injuries.

The woman was 22 years old and, according to Nedeff, had a last known address in Belpre.

He said the disturbance involved Sprague and the woman “a young homeless couple” who lived in the cemetery and them “got into an argument.”

“(Sprague) beat them pretty good.” Nedeff said.

Sprague had left the scene, Nedeff said, and according to the news release, police found him around 4 a.m. in East Muskingum Park and a foot pursuit ensued.

“(Officers) pursued him,” Nedeff said.

The woman's injuries were so severe that Sprague was charged with aggravated assault, according to Nedeff, but they are not life-threatening.

He said she was taken to Marietta Memorial Hospital.

The case against Sprague was filed Monday in Marietta Municipal Court and he was arraigned at 8 a.m. Monday, according to court records. He remained in jail Wednesday afternoon.

According to court records, Sprague will have a preliminary hearing and a hearing to modify a temporary protective order in Municipal Court on Nov. 13 at 1 p.m.
