Court hearing for woman accused of killing toddler in North Olmsted Giant Eagle

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The woman accused of stabbing 3-year-old Julian Wood in the parking lot of the Giant Eagle store in North Olmsted is scheduled to appear before Judge John Russo of the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas on Thursday via Zoom

On September 16, Bionca Ellis was determined to be incompetent to stand trial at this time and was ordered to undergo inpatient treatment at Northcoast Behavioral Healthcare to determine whether her competency can be restored .

Julian was with his mother Margot, 37, when they were attacked on June 3.

Margot was also injured but survived.

North Olmsted police arrested Ellis, 33, of Cleveland minutes after the attack as he walked along Dover Center Road with the knife believed to have been used in the attack.

According to North Olmsted police. Sergeant. Matthew Beck and Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O'Malley Ellis stole two knives from the Volunteers of America thrift store next to Giant Eagle.

She then allegedly walked into Giant Eagle, saw the victims exiting, followed them and immediately stabbed Julian, who was sitting in the shopping cart.

Margot was stabbed while trying to pull her child out of the shopping cart, O'Malley said.

Ellis was indicted on the following charges:

  • 1 charge of aggravated murder
  • 2 murder cases
  • 2 counts of attempted murder
  • 1 count of endangering children
  • 1 count of tampering with evidence
  • 1 charge of misdemeanor theft

North Olmsted police said the attack appeared to be random.

Julian's funeral took place on June 8th.
