Eagles' Saquon Barkley says the NFL drug tested him after he cleared the reverse hurdle

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley did something so extraordinary on the football field that the NFL drug tested him immediately after the game.

In the second quarter of the Eagles' 28-23 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars, Barkley caught a pass from quarterback Jalen Hurts, went around one Jaguars defender and spun away from another.

As Barkley completed his spin move and turned his back to a third Jaguars defender, he improbably jumped over the defender while facing backwards.

As for Barkley, he said his instincts took over when he made that move.

“What really happened was that I wanted to do a double spin. I broke it off, and when I spun, I spun again, and I just felt like that would probably take away from the coolness of the game,” I thought. He went deep, so I thought it “It would be cool if I just jumped up, but my body kind of took over,” Barkley said on “Air it Out.”

Barkley's incredible hurdle stunned many people, including the NFL.

“I took a drug test right after the game,” Barkley said.

Barkley had a monster game in the Eagles' win over the Jaguars on Sunday, having 199 scrimmage yards and scoring two touchdowns.

Barkley's hurdling game was great, but Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce says players shouldn't try to emulate that play.

“Don’t do that. It's the quickest way to break your neck. “Football is not meant to be played in the air, I promise you that,” Kelce said on a recent episode of “New Heights.”

“Unless you're an incredible athlete, if your athleticism is far better than anyone else on the field, do whatever you want, but beyond that, don't do it. This is a security risk. You don't do that.” Too often I want to join a game on the floor and we don't recommend letting kids play it at home.

Barkley himself said he didn't want to try to recreate this play for the same reason.

“To be honest, I won’t try this again. It’s not a safe game,” Barkley said.

The star running back is in the midst of a great first season with the Eagles, as he ran for 925 yards and scored six touchdowns.

The Eagles have won four straight games and look to keep it going when they take on the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET.
