Hawks' Trae Young delivers brutal farewell message to Knicks fans

Trae Young shouldn't expect a friendly reception in New York any time soon.

The Hawks point guard renewed his role as the Knicks' antagonist Wednesday night during a postgame interview on the court at State Farm Arena.

After the Knicks lost 121-116 to the Hawks, Young took it upon himself to rub salt in the wound of the New Yorkers who attended the game.

“I hope these New York fans find their way to the exit really, really quickly,” Young said with a laugh.

The comment drew cheers from the home crowd.

“Boo, take y’all home,” he added, causing the interviewer to laugh.

Young had 23 points in Wednesday's win over the Knicks, shooting 7 of 23 from the field while knocking down three of his nine 3-point attempts.

The young personality as public enemy No. 1 in the Knicks nation dates back to the 2021 NBA playoffs, when the Knicks battled the Hawks in the first round, and the star point guard helped lead Atlanta to one in five games series victory, averaging 29.2 points per game and shooting 44.1 percent.

Knicks fans chanted “F–k Trae Young!” since then, whether Young is at Madison Square Garden or not.

“Oh super fun. This is hilarious,” Young said of the hostility he faced from Knicks fans during an appearance on the “P with Paul George podcast” in August.

“I will never forget this young little girl. 10 – if I had to guess – maybe 10 to 12, which just gave me the finger right behind the scorer's table. I don’t say anything to her, I just look at the father and think: That’s cool.”

Wednesday's loss was the Knicks' second straight and their fourth loss in the first seven games of the season.
