Drug deal behind fatal double shooting in Rock Hill driveway, police say

ROCK HILL, S.C. (WBTV) – One person was killed and another was seriously injured in a double shooting related to a drug deal Wednesday, Rock Hill police said in an update Thursday.

On Wednesday, November 6, around 12:45 p.m., police found two people shot in a parked car outside a home on Amelia Avenue in a neighborhood near Cherry Road.

A person in the car, identified only as “male,” was pronounced dead at the scene. It was not said where or how many times this person was shot.

The other person, identified only as “female,” was seriously injured by a gunshot to the head and hand. She was taken to a hospital, police said Wednesday.

According to a press release on Thursday, investigators now believe the shooting was related to a drug deal. The shooting is believed to have been “the result of an illegal drug sale.”

Authorities believe the gunman approached the car in the driveway while shooting inside, hitting the two people inside. The shooter then fled the scene, police said – although it was not immediately clear whether the shooter was in a car or on foot.

The identity of the shooter was still unknown Thursday, Rock Hill police said. The shooting remained under investigation.

There is no danger to the population, the police said on Wednesday. No further details have been released at this time.
