2 car theft suspects arrested in Gwinnett County

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – Two carjacking suspects have been arrested, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.

Police said they responded to a call about a carjacking on Seasons Parkway in Norcross Township on Oct. 18.

The victim told officers that as he sat in his parked car, a man tapped his windshield with a gun and ordered him to get out.

As the victim got out of his car, a second man searched his pockets and took his car keys and cell phone. According to police, the two suspects then escaped in the victim's car.

Police said they found the stolen car about an hour later near Singleton Road and Harbins Road, adding that they sped away from officers but lost control and plunged down an embankment.

Officers surrounded the car and removed both suspects.

According to police, the two were taken to the hospital with minor injuries from the accident and then taken to the Gwinnett County Jail.

Amadeo Barragan-Carbijal, 25, of Atlanta, and Luis Contreras-Pineda, 23, of Norcross, are each charged with hijacking a motor vehicle, aggravated assault, armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of certain felonies.

Barragan-Carbijal is also charged with felony fleeing or attempting to elude.
