Homeless man charged in Watertown stabbing incident

WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWNY) – A Watertown man who police say is homeless is facing three felony charges after he allegedly attacked another man with a knife.

Shawn O'Leary, 50, allegedly entered an apartment building at 263 State Street and pulled out a pocket knife. Police said O'Leary “brandished the knife while simultaneously threatening to stab another man, Dakota Arnette.”

O'Leary was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a weapon; threatening, 1st degree; Burglary 1st degree. Police stated in their filing that O'Leary has a criminal record, having been convicted of a felony in April 2022.

He was initially detained by police and awaited his first court date.

The incident dates back to October 4th and the arrest last Friday.
