Killing deer in Texas? Know this new law better

As crazy as it may sound, people all over Texas are hunting and killing the deer in their area, and now there's a new law about it.

Don't panic, crazy deer haters aren't scouring the Lone Star State trying to take down Bambi. At least no more than usual…it's deer hunting season in Texas, so no need to panic. The new law does not affect the hunt itself, but what happens afterwards.

The deer population in Texas is expected to be very high this season. For some, hunting is not only a means to feed their families or supply restaurants and other food pantries such as local food pantries, but also a way to regulate the population.

What is the new law for deer hunters in Texas?

Deer hunters are now allowed to dismember their prey on site as long as they keep a “gender proof” (gender of the animal, cochino) and their markings. Failure to move the body to another location should prevent Chronic Wasting Disease from spreading to other parts of Texas.

This is just part of the new measure, you can find out more here.

“The anticipation of another bountiful hunting year is great news for the nearly one million whitetail deer hunters preparing to head into the field next month,” said Blaise Korzekwa, TPWD whitetail deer program manager. “The excitement of a new season offers hunters the opportunity to also advocate for the health of Texas’ native deer herd. As hunters, we have a responsibility to protect our state’s natural resources and pass on our strong hunting traditions to future generations.” – myhighplains.com

Yes, there are (some) deer in the El Paso area and yes, you can hunt them through December. Make sure you have all permits and follow all hunting and private property laws.
