Suspect arrested in connection with Pickford home burglary

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) – A Sault Ste. Marie was arrested after she allegedly entered a home in the Pickford area without permission and attacked the homeowner.

A Soldier from MSP Sault Ste. Marie Post responded to a residence on Townline Road in Pickford Township on Tuesday for a reported home invasion.

According to an MSP news release, the officer arrived and discovered that 46-year-old Kimberly Backus had entered the home without permission. The apartment belonged to a former acquaintance of hers. After entering the home, Backus allegedly attacked the homeowner.

Following the officer's investigation, Backus was arrested for first-degree trespassing and domestic violence. She was booked into the Chippewa County Jail.

Backus was arraigned Wednesday in 91st District Court. Her bond was set at $500 with conditions and she was released. Her next court date is November 11th.

The defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
