Man convicted of murder in deadly South Shore Plaza shooting – NBC Boston

Nearly three years after a fatal shooting at a Massachusetts mall, a man has been convicted of murder.

Dijoun Beasley, a 26-year-old from Boston's Dorchester neighborhood, was fatally shot at South Shore Plaza in Braintree on January 22, 2022.

Julius Hammond-Desir, then 19, of Maynard, was arrested for murder. The Norfolk County District Attorney's Office said Tuesday that a jury convicted him of first-degree murder.

Hammond-Desir is scheduled to be sentenced Thursday in Norfolk Superior Court, prosecutors said.

A man was critically injured in a shooting at a shopping center in Braintree, Massachusetts, on Saturday afternoon and the suspect is still at large, according to officials.

State and local police responded to a call of shots fired at a person at South Shore Plaza around 3 p.m. on a Saturday. The mall was evacuated and those still inside were ordered to shelter in place until they could safely exit.

Emergency responders found Beasley on the ground with at least one apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to a Boston hospital with life-threatening injuries and died a few days later.

According to Braintree police, an “encounter” occurred between the two men in a store on the first floor of the mall. Hammond-Desir allegedly walked up to Beasley, pulled out a gun and shot him. Police believe Hammond-Desir immediately fled the mall.

Police said at the time it appeared it was a targeted shooting rather than a random incident and insisted there was no danger to the public.
