Brooklyn man killed on Belt Parkway in Howard Beach after crash sends SUV crashing into tree: NYPD – QNS

A Brooklyn man died in a high-speed chain reaction crash near Spring Creek Park in Howard Beach on Tuesday evening.

Police from the 106th Precinct in Ozone Park responded to a 911 call about a vehicle collision at the Belt Parkway and 79th Street around 11:12 p.m. and found a 25-year-old man unconscious and unresponsive with traumatic injuries to his body. Emergency responders responded to the scene and took him to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said Wednesday. He was later identified as Nicolas Blagovisny, of Stuart Street, Sheepshead Bay.

Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad revealed that Blagovisny was behind the wheel of a 2024 BMW X5 SUV that was traveling at a high rate of speed in the right lane of the eastbound Belt Parkway when he attempted to move out of the right lane to move into the center lane where he held onto the driver's side rear of a 2024 Acura Integra driven by a 45-year-old man. Blagovisny turned right and struck the guardrail on the south side of the roadway, causing his SUV to launch into the air and then crash into a tree, causing him fatal injuries.

A 21-year-old man who was sitting in the passenger seat of the BMW was transported by emergency medical services to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was in stable condition, police said. The Acura driver was not injured and remained at the scene. The investigation by the NYPD Highway District Collision Investigation Squad is ongoing.
