Hattiesburg man arrested in Memphis by US Marshals in connection with 2020 murder

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WDAM) – A Hattiesburg man was arrested in Memphis, Tennessee on Tuesday, November 6, following an investigation by the US Marshals Service.

Kode McNair, 25, of Hattiesburg, was arrested Tuesday and charged with murder and tampering/tampering with evidence.

On January 3, 2020, John Anthony “Jay” Tarvin was shot and killed at a home on Presley Drive in Hattiesburg.

Just over two years later, on October 19, 2022, an arrest warrant was issued for McNair in connection with the crime.

The USMS Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Mississippi accepted the case on September 24 of this year.

The task force received information that McNair was in Memphis and contacted the Two Rivers Violent Fugitive Task Force.

Two Rivers detectives began searching for McNair and were able to track him to a residence in the 6200 block of Thistlebrook in Memphis.

With assistance from the Shelby County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Apprehension Team, the USMS surrounded the residence and McNair was taken into custody without incident.

McNair is currently at the Shelby County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Mississippi.
