Kenosha police arrested a man believed to be armed as he attempted to enter Roosevelt Elementary School

(TMJ4) – Kenosha police arrested a suspected armed man who tried to enter Roosevelt Elementary School on Thursday.

District leaders say this man attempted to enter the school around 9 a.m. Thursday morning with “suspicious bags.” When school staff tried to speak to him, the man ran out of the building and into the surrounding neighborhood.

The man was later located and arrested shortly after 2 p.m

“We believe this was indeed an armed suspect with a firearm and there was no legitimate reason for him to enter the school,” police said at a news conference Thursday afternoon.

Only the “quick and careful actions” of school staff prevented the man from entering the school, officials said.

Area schools were placed under lockdown while police searched for the man.
