Evansville firefighter Robbie Doerr's murder case on ABC's “20/20”

EVANSVILLE – The story of Evansville firefighter Robbie Doerr's murder will be the focus of Friday night's “20/20” on ABC.

The episode, titled “Fire and Vice,” will premiere at 8:00 p.m. CT and will also stream later on Hulu.

Doerr, 51, was shot to death in his driveway on Evansville's north side on February 26, 2019. It would take several years, but ultimately his wife, Elizabeth Fox-Doerr, and a man she was reportedly having a relationship with, Larry Richmond Sr., were both arrested in connection with Doerr's death.

Fox-Doerr was convicted this year and sentenced in June to 90 years in prison – 60 years for aiding and abetting murder, a Level 1 felony, and 30 years for conspiracy to commit murder, also a Level 1 felony.

Richmond Sr., who was convicted of a previous murder and released from prison shortly before Doerr's killing, is accused of firing the fatal shots. He pleaded not guilty to charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, according to court records.

A jury trial against him is planned for May 2025.

Who appears in the episode “20/20”?

A trailer for the episode shows the moderator interview with Fox-Doerr from prison. It also promises a video of her interrogation by Evansville police.

Also seen in the clips is Larry Wildt, another Evansville firefighter and Doerr's friend, speaking with the 20/20 host.

Wildt spoke during Fox-Doerr's trial, sharing with the court his victim impact statement, which was reported by Courier & Press.

He told the court that Fox-Doerr had “turned a lot of people's lives upside down.”

“I lost my best friend, my go-to guy when I had a bad day,” Wildt said. “I lost my fishing partner and my bowling partner.” Doerr’s killing was “senseless,” Wildt added.

Lindsey Griffin, Doerr's daughter, will also be part of the episode, according to preview clips.

“Life sucks without him,” she says in the clip. “…That was my best friend, and now he'll never see his grandson again.”
