A suspect is in custody following a road rage incident in Peoria on the morning of November 7th.

Around 8 a.m., a driver traveling near 83rd Avenue and Olive Avenue called authorities to report another driver was shooting at his vehicle.

The driver told Peoria police that the man pulled up next to his car and yelled at him. The man then fired a shot from a handgun, striking the rear passenger door of the driver's vehicle.

The driver was uninjured and drove off the road to call for help. According to Peoria Police, the suspect fled the area and was not immediately located.

Investigators enlisted the help of Peoria SWAT to arrest the man, who they identified as 49-year-old Rey D. Villegas of Phoenix.

According to police, Villegas was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count of drive-by shooting.

Peoria police reminded drivers in a Facebook post about the incident to be patient on the roads and not engage in road rage. They said if motorists encounter a road rage situation, they should call their local police department and drive to a public area.
