Man arrested after alleged bat-swinging incident in Boone County

BOONE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A man accused of swinging a bat and not cooperating with police is behind bars.

On October 22, 2024, law enforcement responded to a disturbance in the Ellis area of ​​Boone County where a person reported a male suspect acting aggressively near the old Ellis Carry-Out. According to the report, the suspect, later identified as Jesse Laws III, was seen swinging a bat at a metal railing and allegedly throwing it at a person earlier in the day.

Officers located Laws at the scene wearing the green shirt described. When approached by officers, Laws became angry, denied the allegations and refused to identify himself. Despite repeated requests, he continued to refuse to cooperate and eventually approached the officer in a threatening manner. At that point, the officer arranged for Laws to be arrested because he interpreted the movement as a potential threat.

Assistance was called from Deputy Cooper and the two officers worked together to subdue Laws, who resisted arrest by refusing to place his arms behind his back. After a short struggle, officers were able to successfully detain him.

Even while being transported to the station, Laws continued to refuse to reveal his name, leading officers to use the live scanning device to identify him as Jesse Laws III. Based on the investigation, Laws now faces charges of resisting arrest and failure to comply with regulations. The incident was officially logged in Boone County, West Virginia.

Authorities are continuing to investigate an earlier allegation that the bat was swung at another person that day.
