A gas leak forced students at Dordt University to vacate their dormitories on Tuesday evening

SIOUX CENTER, Iowa (KTIV) – Dordt University students were evacuated from their dorm rooms at Dordt University after a gas leak occurred.

According to Sioux County Radio, the Sioux Center Fire Department was called to Dordt University's new residence hall buildings just before 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 5, after receiving reports of a gas leak, according to Sioux Center Fire Chief David VanHolland.

The fire chief said firefighters evacuated students from four of the university's dormitory buildings while city crews made repairs after discovering the gas leak was caused by some broken seals.

The gas department was able to repair the broken seals and 4th Avenue Northeast was closed for a short time.

The Sioux Center fire chief said firefighters responded to the call for between half an hour and 45 minutes.
