The Baltimore Ravens struggled to gain a commanding lead against their rival Cincinnati Bengals to open Week 10 play on Thursday night. They also lost one of their best players just before halftime: star safety Kyle Hamilton suffered a non-contact ankle injury trying to defend a pass from Joe Burrow.

When fans on social media saw a replay of Hamilton slipping on the M&T Bank Stadium turf, fans initially worried that the All-Pro may have suffered a serious injury, such as a torn Achilles tendon. However, the Ravens quickly decided Hamilton was questionable to return to Thursday's game, attributing the problem to his ankle. They then shut him out midway through the third quarter.

Head coach John Harbaugh downplayed the severity of the injury after the game – a wild 35-34 win for Baltimore – telling reporters that Hamilton suffered an ankle sprain that was “not particularly serious.” He did not give a time frame for the return.

Hamilton had four tackles before leaving the field under his own power. He entered Thursday's contest and is widely considered one of the NFL's best defensive backs, with five pass breakups, five quarterback hits and three tackles for a loss in the 2024 season. The Ravens have also had him at multiple positions in recent years used, among other things, as a linebacker and nickel cornerback.

Baltimore's backup safeties include former Chicago Bears starter Eddie Jackson and fourth-year reserve Ar'Darius Washington, who has four pass deflections and one interception this year.
