Forget about the upcoming PS5 Pro release for a second: we've got some new Nintendo Switch 2 news for you to sink your teeth into. Somehow.

Anyone who has been following the rumors about the Nintendo Switch successor knows that until recently, spring 2025 was touted as the release date for the Switch 2.

The release While the date is still up in the air, following the release of Nintendo's latest earnings report (h/t Eurogamer), we learned that the company is still plans register the new console before the end of the fiscal year.

Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed in a conference call after the release that the new console will be unveiled (in some form) by the end of March 2025.

Beyond that, however, we're still no closer to learning more about this mysterious new console. We haven't learned anything new about the machine itself, only that we will see it in the next five months.

What does this mean for Switch 2?

The big takeaway here is that we won't get an official look at the Nintendo Switch 2 (or whatever the console is called) until later this year.

Well, I would do it Love for Nintendo to prove me wrong and start teasing its next console immediately tomorrow, but with a few more Switch games still on the horizon – including Mario & Luigi: Brothership and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake – and those to come Black Friday and holiday sales push, it feels like a reveal probably won't happen until January.

This opinion is shared by industry analysts such as Hideki Yasuda from Toyo Securities. Reacting to the news that Nintendo Switch sales fell short of forecasts this quarter (as reported by Reuters), he said: “Making an announcement this year has become quite difficult… you don't want to draw attention to it one upcoming console a year.” In the middle of the critical end-of-year shopping season.”
