Accused drunken wrong-way driver almost hits Kamala Harris' motorcade in Milwaukee

A wrong-way driver who was believed to have been driving drunk almost hit Vice President Kamala Harris' motorcade in Milwaukee on Monday evening, shocking video footage shows.

The 55-year-old local man drove up an exit ramp on the wrong side of I-794 at St. Paul Avenue and passed the Democratic candidate and her entourage of vehicles within seconds, WISN 12 reported.

The driver moved into the left lane as the first car in the motorcade passed, followed by more than a dozen other cars – including one that was taking Harris to the airport, according to footage from the local ABC affiliate.

The last car in the group, driven by a Milwaukee County sheriff's deputy, stopped the wrong-way driver and arrested him after he failed several field sobriety tests, the station reported.

The man appeared to be just as confused as those who spotted his headlights on the one-way highway.

When the officer told him that he “almost hit a vehicle in the VPOTUS motorcade, he was extremely surprised and did not recall ever getting onto the highway or almost hitting another vehicle,” it said Local news station arrest report. ”

“He also stated that he had no intention of harming Vice President Kamala Harris or anyone associated with her campaign,” the arrest report states.

According to the report, the driver also had an open beer can in his car.

He was arrested on charges of drunken driving and second-degree recklessly endangering safety and was being held in jail without bail, the station reported.

The Secret Service said it was aware of the incident and thanked the sheriff's office for arresting the driver.
