Brandon Scott laments the loss of Kamala Harris and the treatment of black women in a viral video

A video of Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott lamenting the loss of Vice President Kamala Harris — and America's treatment of black women in general — has gone viral.

In his remarks Wednesday, a day after Harris' resounding loss to former President Donald Trump, Scott spoke very personally about Harris' loss and what he believes it said about the country.

He said he was “extremely disappointed” with the results and that there would be a second term for Trump as president. On Election Day, Scott enthusiastically tweeted that he had made history by electing Harris.

Although Scott was the first Baltimore mayor to be re-elected since 2004, he struck a darker tone the following day.

“It's really on my heart this morning to say as a man, but more importantly as a black man, that this country doesn't deserve black women or black people, but specifically black women,” Scott said.

He continued: “This morning I woke up and just hugged my wife because I know how hard this is for black women. And they have carried and saved this country too many times and continue to be the most disrespected people on the planet. And honestly, it disgusts me.”

A tweet with Scott's comments from @cbr_OLU – VOTE For Community, VOTE For The Babies, VOTE – had received 1.1 million views as of early Friday morning.

“Baltimore got them a Real One,” wrote the X member who shared it.

A video posted to the mayor's Instagram account had received more than 500,000 views.

On Tuesday, voters chose Trump, 78, who was convicted in May of 34 counts of falsifying business records, over Harris, the first woman, Black and person of Asian descent to be elected vice president. She quickly became the Democratic choice after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race after a shaky debate in the debate and endorsed her. Trump was elected despite longstanding questions about his racist attitudes and the utterance of racist comments by speakers at his final rally in New York City.

“I think about the world we will bring our daughter into in a few months,” Scott said. “And I want the vice president to know that she and her team did everything right and right. But the unfortunate reality is that this country is still riddled with racism, sexism and misogyny.”

Scott appeared outraged that voters chose Trump over Harris, despite what political observers described as a strong debate performance and a well-executed campaign.

“I am personally proud of her and know that so many others feel the same. We appreciate her tenacity, her focus, her decency and the way she conducted herself throughout this campaign. And I don't want to hear anyone say that they should have done something differently, that she should have run longer. The fact is that they have done everything a campaign can do and more. But we as a country really have a lot of soul searching to do and that’s what I really want to say about it today.”
