Ferry County officials are searching for suspect in Republic burglary incident

REPUBLIC, Wash. – Ferry County officials are asking for the public's help in finding a burglary suspect.

According to the Ferry County Sheriff's Office, officers responded to a report of a home invasion in the West Tessie Avenue area of ​​Republic on the afternoon of October 5th.

Officers said the homeowner told them he saw two men hold up an outbuilding and try to get into the home. Although no items were taken, due to a quick response from surrounding officers, the suspects fled on foot just before police arrived, according to the sheriff's office.

Both suspects were identified from available surveillance camera footage and a 22-year-old man was taken into custody.

The sheriff's office is now asking for assistance in locating Billy Backus, 41, who is considered a person of interest in the case. The deputies believe that he may be in the territory of the Republic.
