Healthcare.gov is now open for 2025 ACA plan shopping

Now is the time for people who need health insurance in 2025 to get insurance. For those without employer, Medicare or Medicaid insurance, Healthcare.gov or the state exchange is the place to look for Affordable Care Act (ACA) plans. Most buyers can find health insurance for $10 or less per month with financial assistance for prescription drugs, doctors and hospitals.

Fall enrollment for ACA plans began November 1st and runs through January 15th in most states. Some states have different filing deadlines. Residents of the states on this list should check their state's regulations or seek local assistance to assist with their shopping.

Importantly, even though the enrollment period is January 15th, those who need coverage starting January 1st should plan to enroll by December 15th. Coverage for those who enroll after this date will begin February 1, 2025.

Even those who currently have an ACA plan should compare insurance options every year to ensure they are getting the best solution for their circumstances. People with Medicare or Medicaid should encourage their uninsured loved ones to explore their ACA insurance options. Affordable, high-quality insurance coverage improves people's health, well-being and financial security. Medicare, Medicaid and the ACA work together to provide vital coverage that meets people's needs.
