Texas teenager arrested three months after Sonic manager was shot for paying counterfeit money

A Texas teenager was arrested more than three months after she allegedly shot and killed a Sonic store manager following a dispute over counterfeit money.

Adiah Roberson, 17, was arrested Tuesday at an apartment complex in Dallas, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.

The murder of 33-year-old manager Daniel Shrewsbury occurred July 7 at a drive-in theater in the 5500 block of Babcock Road in San Antonio. When police arrived, Shrewsbury was found shot in the chest and unresponsive. He died at the scene, San Antonio Crime Stoppers said.

Roberson is accused of attempting to pay for food with counterfeit money and stealing money from a Sonic employee. Shrewsbury went outside to take a photo of the suspect's license plate when Joshua Joseph, who was with Roberson, “became upset and threatened to attack Daniel and warned him that he would be shot,” Crime Stoppers said.

“I apologize for the actions of someone who happened to be with me,” Joseph said after his arrest. “None of this should have happened the way it did. I wouldn’t wish death on anyone.”

Before her arrest, Roberson was on the “Top 10” list of most wanted fugitives in Texas. As FOX 4 News reports, she was booked into the Dallas County Jail on murder and forgery charges. Her bond was set at $520,000 and she will be transferred to a San Antonio prison.

Authorities confirmed that a tip received by Texas Crime Stoppers led multi-agency fugitive investigators to her, and they are evaluating whether that tip would be eligible for the $5,000 cash reward offered for information leading to her arrest.

Shrewsbury is described as a prankster who consoled and “shed sweat and tears for Sonic,” a woman who identified herself as his mother and posted on an online obituary tribute.
