A man was injured in a rollover crash on I-70 early Friday after he fell asleep at the wheel, officials said

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (WIBW) – A driver was taken to a local hospital early Friday after being injured in a rollover crash that officials said occurred when he fell asleep at the wheel while driving on Interstate 70 in Wyandotte County.

The crash was reported at 1 a.m. Friday on eastbound I-70 near the I-635 interchange.

The Kansas Highway Patrol said the accident occurred when the driver of a 2006 Pontiac Vibe fell asleep at the wheel while traveling east on I-70.

The patrol said the Pontiac then left the road and struck the metal guardrail before rolling over.

The driver, Lourdes Murillo-Valdes, 35, of Kansas City, Kansas, was taken to University of Kansas Hospital with what are believed to be minor injuries.

The patrol said Murillo-Valdes, who was alone in the car, was wearing a seatbelt.
