Saoirse Ronan responds to viral claim that she resembles a famous pop star

Saoirse Ronan has reacted to the revelation that she has a celebrity doppelganger during an appearance on Thursday's episode of The Tonight Show.

The 30-year-old Irish actress has been in the headlines since her viral exchange The Graham Norton Show last week, in which she silenced her fellow guests with an honest reminder of violence against women and girls.

However, Ronan has also caused a stir on the internet thanks to her obvious resemblance to a famous pop star, Chappell Roan.

Published on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy FallonRonan was recently shown a tweet asking, “Have you ever seen Saoirse Ronan and Chappell Roan in the same room?”

The two images included in the X/Twitter post showed Ronan looking straight ahead, alongside Ronan in a similar pose to demonstrate their physical resemblance.

“Even Chappell Roan himself posted this on TikTok,” Fallon said atonement star playing her a clip from 2021 of Roan transforming into the actor's role in the 2009 film The beautiful bones.

Ronan confirmed that she was aware of the talk and had actually heard about it from Roan herself when they first met backstage after a performance by the “Pink Pony Club” singer.

“I became obsessed with her over the summer, just like everyone else,” Ronan explained, revealing that fellow actress Brie Larson and her friend introduced themselves to Roan's parents at the show.

“I played it really cool… and she called me over and said, 'Everyone says we're the same.'”

Fallon then brought out a photo of Ronan and Roan along with Larson and friends performing: “We're in the same room, we both exist.”

“She's just incredible,” Ronan continued in his praise for the pop star. “I love how she talks about the insane treatment of famous people…”

“She’s a breath of fresh air,” Fallon agreed.

Ronan went viral last week when she performed The Graham Norton Show alongside her Irish actor colleague Paul Mescal gladiator Co-star Denzel Washington and The Day of the Jackal Actor Eddie Redmayne.

As the others listened to Redmayne talk about how he learned self-defense techniques from a special combat expert as part of his training for the role of an elusive assassin, Mescal joked that he wouldn't think to take out his phone to use it as a weapon in an attack.

“Who's actually going to think about it?” he asked. “If someone actually attacks me, I won't 'make a phone call,'” he continued, gesturing as if he were pulling a phone out of his pocket.

“Girls have to think about that all the time,” Ronan joked, prompting Mescal and Redmayne to remain silent. In a side note to the audience, Roann asked, “Am I right, ladies?”

She was widely applauded and has since received international praise for highlighting the everyday actions women need to take to feel better prepared in the event of gender-based violence.

Ronan stars in two films released in October and November: The outrun, in which she stars as a recovering alcoholic who returns home to the Orkney Islands in Scotland Flash, Steve McQueen's historical war drama about a defiant boy who goes on an adventure in London during World War II while his mother (Ronan) searches for him.
