Detroit Lions waive undrafted rookie wide receiver

ALLEN PARK – The Detroit Lions have waived rookie wide receiver Isaiah Williams ahead of their game against the Houston Texans.

Williams made the 53-man roster when he left training camp as an undrafted free agent. He got a brief taste of action in recent weeks when he excelled with a strong kick return against the Green Bay Packers from Lambeau Field.

But the Lions have a handful of players who are close to returning, making roster spots increasingly difficult to come by. Earlier this week, they opened the 21-day practice window for cornerback Emmanuel Moseley and safety Ifeatu Melifonwu. And second-year defensive tackle Brodric Martin has been back on the practice field for two weeks and could be a name to keep an eye on for activation in the near future.

Additionally, the Lions are back to full strength in the receiver room as Jameson Williams was activated after his two-game extension. They also saw Tim Patrick take on the WR3 role and Kalif Raymond make some big plays along the way. Allen Robinson has also seen more action in recent weeks.

Amon-Ra St. Brown also plays at the highest level. The Sun God caught 30 targets sent directly his way, so the depth at wide receiver is strong.
