Discard unused prescription medications at Genesee County Take Back Day

GENESEE COUNTY, MI – The Genesee County Prevention Coalition will host a “Take Back Day” event this weekend to encourage residents to throw away unused prescription medications.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, the event at the Flint Township Police Department, 5200 Norko Drive, will accept liquid medications, band-aids and needles – no questions asked.

Community health and wellness agencies will be stationed with police to share information and resources for substance abuse prevention, treatment and support services, according to a coalition news release.

Free naloxone and fentanyl test strips will also be distributed.

You can dispose of pill or capsule medication in the following locations:

  • Burton Police Department, 4090 Manor Drive
  • Davison Police Department, 199 E. Flint St.
  • Fenton Police Department, 311 S. Leroy St.
  • Mott Community College Public Safety, 1401 E. Court St.
  • Flushing Police Department, 725 E. Main St.
  • Genesee County Sheriff's Department, 1002 S. Saginaw St.
  • Grand Blanc Parish Police Department, 5405 S. Saginaw St.
  • Flint Police Department, 210 E. 5th St.
  • Flint Township Police Department, 5200 Norko Drive
  • City of Grand Blanc Police Department, 203 E. Grand Blanc Road
  • Metro Police Authority, 5420 Hill 23 Drive

Last year, Genesee County law enforcement collected nearly 700 pounds of safely discarded medications.

The initiative was launched in 2010 to ensure that medications that could be misused or abused were removed from Genesee County homes.
