Stephen Colbert envies escaped monkeys who have “gone off the grid” in South Carolina – and expresses this with the “Little Mermaid” parody

43 monkeys escaped from a research facility in South Carolina on Thursday and have not yet been captured at the time of writing. This not only impressed “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert, but also filled him with envy, so he composed a parody song for her.

Sure, the CBS host laughed off the situation and encouraged residents to follow police orders and lock their doors — but he also encouraged them to keep their doorbell cameras on, just in case one of the primates comes to their front door showed up and did something funny.

“Right now these monkeys are gone. They are off the grid and leaving their problems behind them,” he said. “I can only say one thing about that.”

Then the presenter turned to one of his secondary cameras, which had a digital image of monkeys, and began to sing.

“I want to be where the monkeys are,” Colbert sang to the tune of “Part of Your World” from “The Little Mermaid.”

“I want to see how they spread rabies! Biting a poodle with – what's that called? Teeth!” he continued. “Where they screech, where they flail, there are 43 monkeys doing their thing! Freely scurrying, ooo ooo eee eee, feces they huuuuuurled.”

You can watch Colbert's full monologue in the video above.
