Report says a Knoxville woman is under the influence of alcohol after a wrong-way crash on I-275 with a baby in the car

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – A Knoxville woman is facing charges after she and her baby got into a traffic accident on I-275 after drinking alcohol, according to a police report obtained by WVLT News.

Briana Bellman is the suspect in the investigation. According to the police report, officers responded around 1:30 a.m. Nov. 2 to the northbound lanes of I-275 near Heiskell Avenue, where they found Bellman.

According to the report, Bellman was traveling south in the northbound lanes of the highway when she struck another driver head-on. Officials at the scene also said Bellman admitted she had been drinking before the accident, adding that Bellman's speech was slurred and her eyes were watering.

The 2-month-old baby appeared to be uninjured after the accident, police said, but Bellman was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center with internal injuries. There is no information yet about the condition of the other driver.

Bellman was cited for driving under the influence and charged with child abuse.
