Viral Olympic gold medalist “Raygun” retires after “disturbing” backlash

Australian competitive athlete Rachel Gunn, also known as “Raygun,” is officially retiring after suffering intense backlash following the Olympics.

The Australian athlete went viral for her performance at this year's Paris Olympics, with many questioning her qualifications and mocking her moves. Despite this, she was still number 1 in the world in breakdancing.

However, citing the “disturbing” feedback she received from countless viewers, Raygun has decided to withdraw.

“I just had no control over how people saw me or who I was,” she told 2DayFM on Wednesday, according to the BBC.

Unfortunately, Raygun received countless messages accusing her of manipulating her path to the Olympics, even though Olympic officials defended her.

“I obviously wanted to keep competing, but that seems really difficult now,” she continued. “I think there will be a high level of control, people will film it and it will go online.”

Many have even gone so far as to question whether breaking as a sport should even be included in the Olympics. In fact, breaking will not return at the 2028 Olympics.

As for Raygun, despite her retirement from breaking competition, she will continue to dance regularly and heartily.

“Dancing is so much fun and makes you feel good. I don’t think people should feel bad about the way they dance,” she said. “I still dance and I still break. But you know, it’s like being in my living room with my partner!”
