Suspect arrested 6 months after stabbing in Thomson

THOMSON, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Police say a suspect has been accused in a stabbing attack in Thomson in May.

On Friday, May 17, 2024, at 10:41 p.m., Thomson police officers said they were dispatched to the 1100 block of Harrison Drive in reference to a stabbing.

According to police, the victim called 911 at 10:40 p.m. and reported that he had been stabbed by the suspect, Carlandos Tyquez McGahee, 27, of Thomson.

During a phone call with police, the victim reported being followed by his attacker, McGahee, police said.

The victim ran on Harrison Drive toward Cobbham Road, officials said. He held his right forearm and cried, “He stabbed me, man, he stabbed me.”

Police said they applied pressure to his wound until emergency medical services arrived. A muscle and a tendon emerged from his wound.

He was then transported to Doctors Hospital in Augusta, according to the report.

Officers said they spoke with a witness who said the victim's girlfriend instigated the incident. The witness said they were celebrating a birthday party when the victim's girlfriend allegedly pushed the witness to the ground for no reason.

The fight caused others to start arguing, the witness told police. However, she said she didn't see the victim get stabbed because it was “so chaotic.”

Other witnesses told police they did not see the victim being stabbed. When police asked them about McGahee, all said he had left before the incident, the report said.

McGahee was arrested Nov. 5 and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon during the commission of a felony, according to jail records.
