Raytown man charged after hit-and-run in Belton

BELTON, Mo. (KCTV) – A violent hit-and-run incident led to criminal charges against a Raytown man.

The Belton, Missouri Police Department said it received a report of a traffic violence incident on southbound I-49 on Wednesday, November 6th. The report said a man pointed a gun at another driver.

Belton officers located the man's vehicle after it exited Highway 58. There, police tried to conduct an investigative stop, but the driver continued. The man's vehicle crashed into an uninvolved driver and left the scene of the accident.

Eventually, the driver, now identified as Andre Johnson of Raytown, crashed into a light pole on 140th Street in Grandview, Missouri. Johnson fled the vehicle and was taken into custody with the assistance of a Cass County Sheriff's Office deputy.

Johnson was charged Thursday with unlawful possession of a firearm, being a convicted dangerous felon, aggravated fleeing from stop or detention and unlawful use of a weapon.(Cass County Jail)

A gun was found in Johnson's vehicle, police said, and a background check revealed he was on probation for a weapons offense.

Johnson was charged Thursday with unlawful possession of a firearm, being a convicted dangerous felon, aggravated fleeing from stop or detention and unlawful use of a weapon.

He is being held in the Cass County Jail with no bond available.
