Man charged with shooting in violent incident in Mexico | Mid-Missouri News

An Auxvasse man is charged with four felonies after he allegedly shot at another car at a stop sign during an apparent road rage incident in Mexico, Missouri, according to court documents.

Jesse L. Deere, 42, was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action and first-degree harassment, according to court records.

According to Mexico's Department of Public Security, Mexico Public Security officers were dispatched at 10:22 a.m. Thursday to South Clark Street near the US 54 entrance ramp for reports of shots fired.

The victim said they tried to pass the suspect on U.S. 54, but the suspect reportedly sped up, made an “offensive hand gesture” toward the victim, displayed a handgun and pointed it at the victim, court documents said .

The victim said the suspect stopped his vehicle at the exit stop sign, exited the vehicle and shot the victim, court documents state.

Officers located Deere's vehicle based on a vehicle description in the area of ​​South Clark Street and Teal Lake Road and found Deere at a nearby business, according to court documents.

Deere allegedly said the altercation began on the highway over tailgating and overtaking, and admitted to displaying a handgun while driving, according to court documents.

Deere allegedly told officers that the victim exited his vehicle at the stop sign and said they were going to physically attack Deere. Deere then shot to the left of the victim toward Walmart and drove away, court documents show.

According to the Department of Public Safety, Deere was taken to the Audrain County Jail.
