This event is part of Attorney General James' ongoing efforts to protect New York communities from gun violence and keep families safe. The Federal Prosecutor's Office (OAG) accepts functional and non-functional unloaded firearms on site – without any questions asked – in return for compensation. The BA provides money in the form of prepaid gift cards if a weapon is received and seized by police officers on site.

The BA provides the following amount for firearms handed in on site:

  • $500 per assault rifle
  • $250 per gun
  • $75 per rifle or shotgun
  • $25 per non-working, replica, antique, homemade or 3D printed weapon

*Anyone who brings home-made or 3D-printed weapons will receive a total of $25, regardless of how many are dropped off.

Weapons must be transported to the drop-off point unloaded in the trunk of the vehicle in a plastic or paper bag or box. This is an amnesty program in which no questions are asked about the person who gave up the weapon. If the person is discharging firearms that must be removed from a permit, identification and a pistol, rifle or shotgun permit must be presented.

If you require an accommodation to participate in any program, service or activity offered by our office, please contact our ADA Administrator at [email protected], preferably 48 hours prior to the event.
