Morning snow showers turn into a quiet weekend

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) –

On site:

Grand Junction experienced temporary thunderstorms during the early hours this morning. This was caused by a small storm cell that moved through the region, leaving behind a light cloud of dust. The ridge of high pressure approaching from the northwestern corner of the state has yet to bring weather conditions under control. This allows for a bit of atmospheric movement in the area. The small storm cell is visible on the live radar loop shown above.

This morning, 48-hour snowfall totals are in the double digits for many counties across Colorado. Many large school districts canceled classes today due to expected dense gatherings in the Denver metro area. Denver, Aurora, Cherry Creek, Douglas County and Jefferson County Public Schools have declared a snow day today. Accumulations on the eastern Plains will be wet and heavy.

Traveling today and this weekend could be complicated. The Denver area and eastern planes will experience a chaotic travel weekend. There will also be road congestion and freezing temperatures in parts of the central range.
