Several teenagers have been arrested in what police in Fairfax County are calling a “brazen” crime spree

Police in Virginia's Fairfax County arrested seven teenagers in September as part of what they say is a violent crime spree.

Police in Virginia's Fairfax County arrested seven teenagers in September as part of what they say is a violent crime spree.

A gun shop in Springfield was robbed of 14 guns in a robbery.

“This was a brazen crime tragically and sadly committed by teenagers,” Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis said during a news conference.

He said they have recovered eight of the 14 weapons so far.

“Those six more firearms out there in the wrong hands can cause great harm and great harm,” Davis said.

Surveillance video shows a stolen white Kia Soul crashing into the front window of the Dominion Defense gun store on Fullerton Road in Springfield in the early morning hours of Sept. 18.

Four people enter the store and make their way with the 14 different weapons.

“The age of the individuals responsible for this and subsequent crimes is shocking,” Davis said.

Davis announced the arrest of three teenage boys, two 16-year-olds and a 13-year-old, in connection with the gun store robbery. And he said the captured weapons had been used in other violent crimes, including a kidnapping, several robberies and burglaries in September.

Four other teenagers were arrested in these additional crimes, including two 18-year-old men, a 17-year-old woman and a 15-year-old boy.

Davis says everyone arrested is from the area and all know each other. He does not suspect organized gang activity, but it is clear that there is a connection between the activities, said the boss.

In addition to the gun store robbery on September 18, the group is suspected of being involved in the following crimes:

  • Armed cell phone robberies in the 6500 block of Springfield Mall in Springfield on Sept. 7.
  • Assault with a deadly weapon (shooting) on Sept. 18 on Hagel Court in Lorton, injuring a 19-year-old man.
  • Shooting at an occupied residence on Matisse Way in Springfield on September 19th. Nobody was injured.
  • A kidnapping and attack on Becontree Lane in Reston. The victim in that case said on Sept. 20 that he was assaulted and robbed but was not seriously injured.
  • Another shooting in Lorton on September 21st at an occupied home. Nobody was hit.
  • And a robbery in Hybla Valley on Sept. 22 in which the victim reported an AR-style weapon was brandished and he was robbed.

The weapons used in these cases date back to the Springfield gun store robbery. Police also said the shootings targeted homes in Lorton and Springfield.

The suspects have been charged with multiple crimes, including robbery, kidnapping, burglary, grand theft of a firearm, grand theft of an automobile, possession of stolen property and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

According to police, all suspects have been arrested and remain in custody.
