According to the sheriff, there is suspicion of abuse in the child's death and two have been arrested

LEESVILLE, La. (KPLC) – Two people face child abuse charges in the death of a 4-year-old Thursday in Leesville.

Vernon Parish Sheriff Sam Craft said two people were arrested on separate charges on Nov. 6, but more charges are expected in connection with the child's death.

The child's biological father, Logan Miller, 24, of Leesville, was arrested and charged with possession of a Schedule II drug, according to Craft. The father's live-in girlfriend, Terrie Gray, 48, also of Leesville, was arrested on outstanding warrants and charged with possession of a Schedule II drug.

“It is a very disturbing and certainly horrific case of abuse of this child and possibly his younger sibling as well,” Craft said.

On Wednesday, November 6, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Leesville Police Department (LPD) officers responded to a call for an unresponsive child found at a local residence.

The child was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. However, according to police, it succumbed to its injuries on Thursday morning.

LPD is currently working with the Sheriff's Office, Coroner's Office and District Attorney in Vernon Parish, as well as the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services to investigate this case.

Anyone with information helpful to the investigation is asked to call Leesville police at 337-238-0331.
