Talawanda HS teacher has been placed on leave pending investigation into “hateful” social media posts

OXFORD, Ohio (WXIX) – A Talawanda High School teacher was placed on leave Friday pending an investigation into social media videos and posts that were allegedly filmed on school grounds, the district said.

This may have happened on the district's network and device, the district's statement said.

“The district has received many reports and concerns regarding this issue. The Superintendent's Office, Human Resources and (School) Administration take the concerns of parents and the community on this matter very seriously. The district cannot comment further during the investigation.”

Parents say they have seen the teacher's social media posts and these are not the first concerning comments that have been made.

“The first thing the teacher saw in her classroom was extremely hateful,” described parent Mike Sekach. “Basically the point was that we need to identify every man who voted blue in the 2024 election because men who identify and wear blue wristbands are safe. Anyone who didn’t vote blue is unsafe.”

In another video of the teacher, Sekach says it appeared not to have been recorded from inside the classroom but still contained a “hateful” message.

“She encourages them to have IUDs implanted in their bodies — children,” Sekach said of the video. “And then she tells those same kids not to trust men and not to go to male doctors. It's extremely sexist. It is hateful and should violate the school’s code of conduct.”

Fellow parent Ivan Carter says the teacher is known for punishing students who don't share her political views.

“It's clear to the students, to her, to everyone, that if you lean even a little to the right, you shouldn't let her know because she'll punish you for it, whether it's about grades or whatever,” Carter said.

Both Sekach and Carter say they have concerns that if the teacher remains employed, it's not a matter of if a conversation like what was allegedly said will come up again, but of when.
